4 arrested for series of shop thefts, more than 1,000 items worth $30k seized

Two men and two women, aged between 27 and 41, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a spate of shop theft cases.

The police received a report on Monday (Nov 26) from a retailer along Smith Street about how items had been stolen from the store.

Through ground enquiries, officers from Central Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on the same day.

More than 1,000 items, including branded apparels, were recovered and seized as case exhibits. They have an estimated total value of about $30,000.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects are believed to be part of a foreign crime syndicate and were involved in other similar cases reported island-wide.

The four suspects will be charged in court on Wednesday (Nov 28).

If convicted, they are liable to a jail term of up to eight years and a fine.
