32 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes found sandwiched between slices of bread at Woodlands Checkpoint

A 52-year-old Malaysian man was caught attempting to smuggle 32 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes at Woodlands Checkpoint on Sunday (Dec 8).

Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers said in a Facebook post that they observed the man at the Arrival Bus Hall behaving suspiciously as he carried four loaves of bread.

The officers foiled the man's attempt after deciding to conduct further checks and found cigarettes sandwiched between slices of bread.

The man was referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

ICA added in the post: "This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore.

"The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security."
