3 arrested for loanshark harassment after man assaulted near Clarke Quay

Three men were arrested for loanshark harassment after they allegedly assaulted a man over a loan near Clarke Quay on Friday (Aug 19).

Police said they were alerted to the incident at about 7.05pm. 

Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from police cameras, officers from Tanglin Division and Criminal Investigation Department established the identities of the three men and arrested them the next day.

The three men, aged 24 and 43, are to be charged in court on Monday (Aug 22).

Under the Moneylenders Act 2008, first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment causing hurt shall be punished with prison term of up to five years, a fine between $5,000 and $50,000, and caning of between five and eight strokes.

The police said they have zero tolerance towards loanshark harassment activities. Those who deliberately cause annoyance and disruption to public safety and security, will be dealt with severely in accordance with the law.
