20 arrested for illegal gambling in Geylang, investigated for breaching safe distancing measures

Nineteen men and one woman, aged between 22 and 68, were arrested during an enforcement operation along Lorong 15 Geylang on Tuesday (May 26).

The enforcement operation against illegal gambling activities was jointly conducted by Bedok Police Division and the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

The 20 suspects were arrested for offences under the Common Gaming Houses Act.

Cash of over $1,600 and gambling-related paraphernalia were seized during the operation, said police in a statement on Wednesday.

Investigations are ongoing.

Police are also investigating the group for breaching safe distancing measures under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

In their statement, the police also said they will continue to clamp down on criminal activities, including illegal gambling.

They added: "Those found engaging in such activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.

"Members of the public are also advised to take the circuit breaker measures seriously."
