Two people were taken to hospital after a fire involving a clothes dryer broke out at HarbourFront Centre shopping mall on Friday afternoon (Nov 8).

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it responded to a fire in a second-floor unit at 1 Maritime Square at 1.23pm.

A spokesman told Stomp: "A fire involving a clothes dryer was extinguished by a member of the public with one fire extinguisher prior to SCDF's arrival."

Two people were taken to Singapore General Hospital, added the spokesman.

Stomper Ben, who was on the way to board a ferry to Batam when he passed by the scene, said that the fire occurred on the second floor of the shopping centre.

Videos that he submitted show the area filled with smoke and authorities at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
