2 men arrested for suspected loanshark harassment at Yishun Avenue 6

Two men, both aged 29, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a case of loanshark harassment.

On July 27, the police received a report that a unit along Yishun Avenue 6 had been splashed with white paint.

Through extensive ground enquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on July 27 and 31.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects is believed to be a runner who had committed harassment on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender.

He will be charged in court today (Aug 1).

Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000.

They are also liable to a mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.

Investigations against the other suspect are still ongoing.
