19-year-old man arrested at Yishun for island-wide motorcycle theft

A 19-year-old man was arrested for his suspected involvement in a series of motorcycle thefts island-wide.

The police said in a news release that on Sep 19 at about 11.34pm, they received a report of a motorcycle being stolen from the open carpark of Block 247 Yishun Avenue 9.

Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division subsequently conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations.

The suspect was arrested on Sep 22 at about 5.30pm at the vicinity of Yishun Avenue 11.

He is believed to be involved in several other cases island-wide.

He was charged in court yesterday (Sep 23) with the offence of theft of a motor vehicle.

If convicted, he will be liable to an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine.

The police would like to advise all motorcycle owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures:

  • Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;

  • Install an anti-theft alarm for your motorcycle;

  • Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; 

  • Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install a suspension guard; and

  • Remove the ignition key and lock the motorcycle, whenever it is left unattended.
