14 women arrested in police operation against massage parlours, nightclubs

Fourteen women, aged between 27 and 44, have been arrested for employment-related offences during an operation conducted against massage establishments and public entertainment outlets.

The series of enforcement checks were conducted on massage establishments and public entertainment outlets located in Chinatown, Jalan Besar and Jalan Bukit Merah on Feb 12 and 13.

The police said in a news release that two massage establishments were found to be operating without valid licences.

In addition, two licensed massage establishments were also found to have contravened licensing conditions.

A 36-year-old woman, who was allegedly working illegally at one of the unlicensed massage establishments, was arrested under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

Another 13 women were arrested for working without a license at a public entertainment outlet.

Actions will also be taken against the operator of the public entertainment outlet for contravening licensing conditions.

"The police take a serious view of anyone found breaking the law and will continue to take tough enforcement stance against such activities," they added in the news release.
