13 men and 5 women arrested for public gaming, $1,649 cash seized

Thirteen men and five women were arrested for their suspected involvement in public gaming activities following an operation conducted by Central Police Division on June 20.

The suspects, aged between 35 and 78, were arrested for offences under the Common Gaming House Act along Jalan Bukit Merah and Keong Saik Road.

The activities were mahjong and a '13 cards' game that involved bets.

A total of $1,649 cash was seized, said the police in a statement.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Common Gaming House Act, any person gaming in public shall be guilty of an offence.

If convicted, he or she faces a fine of up to $5,000 and/or a jail term of up to six months.
