13 arrested for illegal betting activities in enforcement operation at Marsiling

Thirteen men, aged between 48 and 72, were arrested during an enforcement operation against illegal betting activities at Marsiling Estate on Aug 23.

In the operation conducted by Woodlands Police Division, all 13 men were arrested for offences under the Betting Act.

Cash of around $4,660, and gambling-related paraphernalia were seized during the operation.

Investigations against the 13 individuals are ongoing.

The maximum punishment of acting as a bookmaker under the Betting Act is a $200,000 fine and five years' jail.

The offence of betting with a bookmaker carries a fine of up to $5,000 or up to six months' jail, or both.
