About 100 people were evacuated after a fire broke out in a jewellery store on the first floor of Far East Shopping Centre on Wednesday night (Feb 15).

Stompers Marco and Sunset Sunrise shared with Stomp videos of the fire and of Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers arriving to extinguish the fire at House of Hung.

In response to a Stomp query, the SCDF said it was alerted to a fire at 545 Orchard Road at about 10.30pm.

"The fire involved the contents of a display cabinet in a unit on the first floor," an SCDF spokesman said.

"SCDF conducted forced entry into the unit and extinguished the fire using a water jet.

"The police and SCDF evacuated about 30 people from the affected premises.

"About 70 people self-evacuated prior to the arrival of SCDF."

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
