Lorry crashes into motorcyclist who recklessly beat red light in Boon Lay

A lorry crashed into a motorcyclist who crossed the road recklessly at the junction of Jalan Boon Lay and Boon Lay Way on Jun 25 at around 7.55pm.

In a video of the incident posted on Beh Chia Lor - Singapore Road, the motorcyclist can be first seen riding dangerously across the traffic junction when the lights were not in his or her favour.

At almost the same time, a lorry driver, who had the right of way, was travelling on the road on the left of the motorcyclist at a relatively high speed.

The former then crashed into the motorcyclist, sending him or her falling onto the road.

The impact was quite hard, but it would have been worse if the lorry driver did not press on the brakes and reduced speed just before the accident.

The motorcyclist was dragged several metres on the road by the force of the collision after crash.

It is unclear what happened thereafter.

Said a Police spokesman in response to a Stomp query:

"On Jun 25 at 7.56pm, the Police were alerted to an accident involving a lorry and a motorcycle along Jalan Boon Lay and Boon Lay Way.

"A 23-year-old male motorcyclist was conscious when conveyed to NUH.

"Police investigations are ongoing."
