A Mini Cooper caught fire yesterday evening (Mar 16) at the multi-storey carpark of Blk 18A Jln Membina, leaving a charred mess behind.

Stomper Mandy sent Stomp a photo of the aftermath. The front of the car has been utterly destroyed by the fire.

Mandy said the car belonged to her friend.

At around 6.30pm, Mandy’s friend and her husband were on the way to pick up their children from tuition, when the car suddenly started emitting smoke after they had parked it.

They called the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and evacuated the car, before it went up in flames.

The SCDF told Stomp that the incident took place on Deck 4A of the carpark and involved the vehicle’s engine compartment.

Two fire bikes, two fire engines, a Red Rhino and a support vehicle were dispatched, and the fire was extinguished with a compressed air foam backpack and hosereel.

No injuries were reported.

According to Lianhe Zaobao, the cars on both sides of the car were also slightly burnt, and there was a charred smell in the air.

In a video uploaded on Lianhe Wanbao’s Facebook page, the car can be seen going up in flames in the carpark.

A separate video uploaded on Lianhe Zaobao’s Facebook page shows SCDF firefighters extinguishing the fire.
