Van overturns at Commonwealth: Journalist, passers-by rushed to save man trapped inside

An unconscious van driver who was trapped in his vehicle was rescued by passers-by and a journalist.

Stomper Micheal and Stomper Elijah alerted Stomp to the incident, and sent photos and videos of the incident.

The van, belonging to pest control services company Pestguard Pte Ltd, had overturned after an accident at 12.10pm on Friday (June 9).

According to a Shin Min Daily report, the driver had lost control of the van and hit a tree, causing it to tip on its side.

Shin Min reporter, Mr Ren Qi, who happened to be passing by the area, rushed to help.

The driver, who appeared to be unconscious, was trapped inside.

50-year-old Mr Xu, who worked nearby, came over to help as well.

Together, the pair woke the driver up and helped him.

Another five to six passers-by came to help as well, with some directing traffic.

The police said they were alerted to the accident involving a van along Commonwealth Avenue towards Boon Lay Way at 12.12pm that day.

"The 49-year-old male van driver was conscious when conveyed to National University Hospital," said a police spokesperson.

Police investigations are ongoing.
