Natalie Portman gives birth to a girl

Natalie Portman has welcomed her second child - a daughter named Amalia - with husband Benjamin Millepied.

The 35-year-old actress and her husband Benjamin Millepied welcomed their daughter, Amalia, into the world on February 22, a representative for the beauty has confirmed.

The rep told People magazine: "Natalie Portman and her husband Benjamin Millepied welcomed a baby girl, Amalia Millepied, on February 22. Mother and baby are happy and healthy."

The 'Black Swan' star and the French choreographer - who married in California in 2012 - are already parents to five-year-old son Aleph.

Natalie and Benjamin's choice of name for their newest addition comes after the 'No Strings Attached' actress recently admitted they hadn't compiled a shortlist of possible monikers because hey think it is important to "meet" the baby first.

Asked in January if she has chosen a name for the impending new arrival yet, Natalie said: "You got to meet a baby before. Gotta meet the baby and then figure it out."

And the news comes after Natalie revealed last week she would not be attending the Oscars, which took place last weekend (26.02.17) because of her pregnancy, despite having been nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role - which was taken home by Emma Stone for 'La La Land' - for her performance in 'Jackie'.

She said at the time: "Due to my pregnancy, I am unable to attend the Academy Awards. I feel so lucky to be honoured among my fellow nominees and wish them the most beautiful of weekends."
