Malaysia Airlines’ CNY video embraces Malaysia's multicultural identity

Malaysia Airlines’ Chinese New Year video has earned praise from Malaysians of all walks of life for how it embraces the country’s multicultural identity.

The 1.41-minute clip has garnered over 600 shares and almost 900 likes on Facebook since it was uploaded on Wednesday (Jan 25).

What sets Malaysia Airlines’ greeting video apart is that the new year wishes are made by non-Chinese Malaysians who speak in fluent Mandarin and a variety of Chinese dialects.

Many Chinese commenters commended the well-wishers’ Chinese proficiency, and some even said the cast’s grasp of the language was better than theirs.

"The uniqueness of Chinese New Year in Malaysia is about how all races celebrate together," a member of the cast, Ashwin, says in the video.
