Doctors collapse on floor after 32-hour surgery in China

A photo showing three exhausted surgeons lying on the ground after performing an operation that lasted 32 hours has gone viral online.

According to online reports, the unusual incident took place at Fujian Medical University Union Hospital from 8.30am until the following day.

A group consisting of three surgeons, six anesthesiologists and eight nurses worked together to carry out six separate operations to remove a series of brain tumours from a single patient.

One doctor said, "The patient had both an aneurysm and brain-stem hemangioblastoma. We needed to remove both tumours in one surgery. This required six different surgical procedures to be conducted on the patient.

"It can be difficult, risky, and time-consuming. If you are removing one tumour, and the other one breaks, it can be fatal."

This was the longest surgery to have ever been done at the hospital.
