The 32-year-old man who was injured in the car explosion at 290H Bukit Batok Street 24 last Wednesday (Apr 26) was charged in Court last Saturday (Apr 29) with the offence of Mischief by Fire, said the police.

"Following investigations, the Police have confirmed that the case of a car exploding at 290H Bukit Batok Street 24, reported on 26 April 2017, was the result of an act of mischief," said the police, adding that they arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the case.

"The man has been charged in Court on 29 April 2017 with the offence of Mischief by Fire under Section 435 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 and will be remanded to assist in further investigations."

In a video that was circulating online after the car explosion, taken by Stomper Shah Kassim, the injured man, wearing a tattered black T-shirt, can be seen crying in pain. There are burn marks on his forearms and skin can also be seen peeling off his arms.

A police spokesperson told Stomp that portable butane gas canisters were found at the scene.

Stomp understands that the man is Dwight T Soriano, an ex-convict who in 2015 conned 34 victims of more than $30,000 in an online scam. He was jailed for 17 months.
