Stomper Rinns was near Block 8 Toa Payoh Lorong 7 yesterday (May 12) at 11.50pm when she saw a lot of smoke coming from inside a coffeeshop there.

She said that her neighbours who were coming back from a funeral saw the smoke coming from the coffeeshop and then called the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

"The neighbours also called the residents as all the residents are really close," said Rinns.

"Nobody seemed to be injured.

"I believe the police and SCDF are still investigating.

"One firefighter said that it was a metal plate that was not turned off.

"Even though the fire was big there was no fire."

In response to Stomp queries, an SCDF spokesperson said:

"SCDF was alerted at around 11.43pm and dispatched 2 fire engines, 1 red rhino, 2 fire bikes and 1 support vehicle to the scene.

"The fire involved unattended cooking at one of the stalls.

"The members of the public switched off the gas valve before the SCDF arrived.

"There were no reported injuries and no evacuation."
