Residents living on the second and third floors of Block 345 in Woodlands were evacuated after a fire broke out at the foot of the block today (Mar 19) at around 11.55am.

In a telephone interview, Stomper Vincent, who is a resident staying at the block, alerted Stomp to what happened.

He said he first heard a loud sound from his flat before the fire alarm went off.

He went down to investigate and saw that a fire had broke out at the foot of the block.

Said the Stomper about what he saw:

"I saw three or four tins of paint and other items that were on fire.

"I think they might have been left there by a contractor.

"There was no cover and the items were exposed to the hot sun.

"Smoke from the fire reached the 10th floor."

The fire was eventually put out by SCDF personnel.

Said an SCDF spokesperson about what happened:

"SCDF was alerted to a fire at about 11.55am.

"SCDF immediately dispatched on Fire Engine, two Red Rhinos, two Fire Bikes, one ambulance and one Support Vehicle to 345 Woodlands Street 32.

"The fire was extinguished by SCDF using one hose reel.

"No injuries were reported and six people were evacuated from the second and third floor.

"SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire."
