Stomper Perry was driving along Jalan Bukit Merah towards the city on Apr 14 when he heard a loud bang after driving over a temporary metallic road cover just before Singapore General Hospital.

After getting out of the car he realised that his tyre had burst and found a three-inch (around 7.6 cm) cut on the side of one of his tyres.

"The metallic covers are so poorly constructed and laid that they may potentially result in serious road accidents," said the Stomper.

"I inspected my front left wheel and found a deep three-inch cut right through the side of my six months old tyre, and some dents and scratches on my six months old rims.

"Worst of all, I had to change to my backup tyre in the drizzling rain right after the traffic junction.

"After replacing the tyre, and to my surprise, another Volkswagen stopped behind my car with a similar puncture on the front left tyre in a short time span of about 20 minutes.

"Similarly, the driver drove over the same metallic cover when the incident happened.

"I went back to the location and took a video of the cars passing over the cover.

"It can be seen that many of the drivers jammed on their brakes after going over it, probably shocked at the bumpiness of the road.

"Some changed lane and tried to avoid it, while some unlucky ones went over it and got their tyres punctured.

"I thought that it would be good to warn other road users of the dangerous road hazard along this road.

"Fortunately, nothing serious happened to me or my passenger and we were lucky to find a nearby tyre shop on a public holiday."
