Minister Shanmugam writes to Yishun condo management after they plan to spend $19k on AGM venue

Minister K. Shanmugam wrote a letter on May 20 to the management of One Canberra, a condominium in Yishun, asking why they had chosen a ballroom for their first annual general meeting (AGM) that would cost $19,000.

This came after several residents wrote in to the Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency (GRC) member of parliament (MP) complaining about this unusual choice of venue.

He pointed out that there is a cheaper alternative, using Chong Pang Community Club (CC) which is available for free.

He added in his letter that if they wanted food, catering would be available for about $5,000.

In his letter he wrote:

"Some residents have also reported you as saying that because currently there is no Management Corporation Strata Title (MCST), the Managing Agent has the right to choose and decide on the venue, regardless of the cost.

"You have a duty to make sure that the residents' money is properly spent."

As of May 23, the condominium's appointed managing agent, Realty International Associates (RIA) have agreed to postpone the meeting to June 24 so that it can be held at Chong Pang CC, reports The Straits Times.
