Huge flames engulf flat units at Blk 818 Woodlands St 82

A large fire engulfed the bedroom of a unit at on the 5th storey at Block 818, Woodlands Street 82 at 8.11pm yesterday (May 11).

Stomper Jonathan, Din, Roy, Shila, DK and Abood alerted Stomp to the fire.

Din said that a video of the fire was circulated on his WhatsApp group, which he forwarded to Stomp. 

According to the Din’s WhatsApp group members, the fire had started from the unit’s aircon compressor, but the flames eventually engulfed the room. 

Said Din:

“I’m not sure, but they (my friends) said no one was hurt.”

In the video sent by Sheila, sparks could also be seen flying from the roaring flames, which was high enough to reach the unit above. 

The SCDF has issued an official statement on the fire:

“On May 11, SCDF were alerted to a fire at Block 818, Woodlands Street 82 at around 8.11pm.

“The SCDF dispatched one fire engine, three Red Rhinos, one ambulance, and two support vehicles.

“Upon arrival, the bedroom of a unit at level five was fully engulfed in fire.

“Flames were also leaping out of the bedroom window towards the bedroom of the unit on the 6th storey.

“SCDF firefighters immediately extinguished the fire with three water jets. 

“40 people were evacuated with the assistance of the police. 

“There were no reported injuries.

“The cause of the fire is being investigated.”
