Elderly man sent to hospital after fire at Yishun flat

A Stomper saw a thick column of smoke coming out of the flat below his at Yishun Block 354 at 12.45pm today (Feb 21).

The Stomper had first smelled something burning, thus switched off all his appliances.

But he realised there was black smoke coming in through his window, and it coming out of the fourth-storey flat in his block

"There was a burning sound like, plastic burning, inside the house," said the Stomper.

"I quickly called the SCDF.

"Sadly an old man was inside the house and was rushed to the hospital just now."

In response to Stomp's queries, an SCDF spokesperson said:

"We were alerted to the incident at about 12.49pm and we dispatched one fire engine, two red rhinos, two fire bikes, one ambulance and one support vehicle.

"The fire was extinguished using one water jet.

"A male Chinese in his 60s was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) in a conscious state."
