Arrested: Knife-wielding man hijacks car in Jurong East, only to get injured after vehicle overturns

A 27-year-old man allegedly forced a man to hand over his car keys at Block 201, Boon Lay Way, while brandishing a knife, only to lose control of the stolen vehicle, causing it to overturn.

The incident happened on Monday (May 8) at about 1am, and the man has since been arrested by the police for armed robbery -- at the site where the car turned turtle, reports Lianhe Wanbao

It is understood that the man had struck the kerb, causing the car to flip onto a grass patch. 

A eyewitness, Madam Wu, told reporters that she heard shouts and the sound of tyres squealing from her flat.

She spotted the car which had overturned when she looked down, while her husband called the police. 

Madam Wu said that she also saw a man escaping from the vehicle, seemingly in pain.

According to Madam Wu, the police arrived shortly and the man was arrested. 

The police has issued an official statement on the incident:

"On May 8, 2017, the police were alerted to a case of armed robbery at 201, Boon Lay Way.

"A 27-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case.

"Police investigations are ongoing."
