Stomper Kesavan had a rare encounter with an iguana while riding his motorcycle along Jalan Pesawat, near the Jurong Bird Park on Dec 28.

"It was a near miss as it was just about to cross the road as I was riding by," said the Stomper.

He told Stomp that he parked his motorbike and guided the iguana away from the road so that other vehicles would not hit it.

Iguanas are not native to Singapore so sighting them in the wild is rare.

The reptile is most likely an abandoned pet.

According to the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) website, it is illegal to keep an iguana as a pet due to various reasons, including spreading diseases.
