Two men aged 31 and 55 arrested for suspected involvement in loansharking activities

Two men, aged 31 and 55, were arrested for their suspected involvement in separate cases of loansharking activities that both occurred on Nov 21.

In the first case, the front door of a residential unit at Block 201 Marsiling Drive was found splashed with paint. Loanshark-related graffiti was also found scrawled along the staircases.

Through extensive ground enquiries and the aid of footages from police cameras (POLCAMs), officers from Jurong Police Division arrested a 31-year-old suspect at Yishun Street 81 on the same day.

The suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Yishun, Woodlands, Sin Ming and Tampines housing estates.

One mobile phone and a black marker pen were seized as case exhibits.

In the second incident, the police received a report on loanshark harassment where kerosene was splashed at a residential unit at Block 366 Clementi Avenue 2.

With the aid of footages from POLCAMs, a 50-year-old suspect was arrested by officers from Clementi Police Division at City Plaza the following day (Nov 22).

He is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment in Clementi, Woodlands, Yishun and Balam Road housing estates.

Both men were charged in court separately on Nov 23 and 24 under the Moneylenders Act.
