Thai man sets ex-wife on fire out of jealousy

The Thai police are on the hunt for a 50-year-old man, Somkuan Jongsuk, who allegedly set his ex-wife, 43-year-old Rungruedee Sithibut on fire at a kindergarten in central Phuket, Thailand on Feb 20, 2017.

The police have intended to proceed with pressing charges against the perpetrator, even after the victim, his ex-wife who had been set ablaze chose not to pursue legal action, reports Coconuts Bangkok

The victim who works a cleaner at Thepkrasattri Municipality Kindergarten in Thalang, reportedly suffered burns to her left arm, left shoulder and back.

She was conveyed to Thalang Hospital to seek medical treatment.

Said Captain Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police:

“We believe Somkuan is still in Phuket, and we have had wanted posters distributed to other police stations across the island for officers to arrest him on sight.

“Although his ex-wife does not want to press charges, we do, for causing physical harm to others resulting in serious injury.”

As for the intention behind the perpetrator’s actions, Captain Kraisorn Boonprasop explained:

“Her ex-husband is still jealous even though they broke up a year ago, but she still helps him from time to time.

“Not long ago, Somkuan was arrested for physical abuse while being drunk, and she bailed him out.”
