Taxi smashes into stationary truck: Cabby and passengers saved by device on back of track

A taxi that was stopped for road works crashed into the back of a stationary truck Pasir Ris Drive Exit yesterday (May 13).

A video posted on ROADS.sg shows the aftermath of the crash.

The clip shows the taxi completely wrecked after the crash.

According to the caption on the post, the cabby and passengers survived because most of the force of the crash's impact was absorbed by a Truck Mounted Accentuator (TMA).

Here is the explanation ROADS.sg posted for this device:

"A Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) is attached to the back of a heavy vehicle for purposes of protecting the work crew in front of this vehicle and protecting the motorist that might drive into the lane closed off by this vehicle.

"Although this device saves lives in the case of a collision, the cost can be exorbitant.

"It costs about $20,000 to $30,000 each depending of the model and type used."
