S’pore teacher runs alongside Bangladeshi migrant friends in 10km Standard Chartered marathon to raise funds

Since 2013, Bryan Lee, a junior college economics teacher has been volunteering with migrant worker organisation Healthserve.

This year, he decided to run a 10km marathon at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, in order to raise funds for HOME Singapore, another organisation that deals with foreign migrant workers.

To support his lofty cause, HOME also sponsored the participation of two workers Byran had gotten to know earlier via Healthserve.

Photos of the marathon were shared on HOME Singapore's Facebook page.

The two sought permission from their bosses to be away from work for about three hours for the race, and had to return to the bin centres where they worked as soon as they completed the race.

However, both have expressed doubt at whether they can still participate at next year’s marathon.

Incidents like these remind us how fortunate we really are, and that even the opportunity to run in a marathon should be cherished.
