Police have detained a man who is believed to have left an unattended bag at Hougang MRT station, causing the station to be briefly shut down on Sunday (April 2).
"A 39-year-old man has been detained and is currently assisting Police in investigations," Police said on Facebook.
All trains on the North-East Line skipped the Hougang Station from about 3pm, SBS Transit said on Sunday (April 2), after an unattended bag was found there.
"All trains on the NEL will skip NE14 Hougang Station due to a security incident," SBS Transit tweeted at about 3pm.
Police later said it was attending to a case of an unattended bag at Hougang MRT station.
"Members of the public are advised to avoid the area," it said on Facebook.
Commuters were redirected to bus services or other train stations.
The station was completely shuttered at close to 4pm, reports The Straits Times.
Police officers were patrolling outside the station and some were seen heading into the underground station.
But the bag turned out to contain nothing suspicious, police said at about 4pm.
Update: The Police have checked the unattended bag and nothing suspicious was found. We commend the SBST staff for their alertness.
