Commuters reported train delays, crowded platforms and escalators that were not working at Serangoon MRT Station this morning (Aug 29) at around 8am.

Stompers Marianne and Eric told Stomp via WhatsApp that they were part of the crowd at the station.

Marianne said that while announcements at the station informed commuters of a 'technical fault', there was no further elaboration.

"There were a lot of people on the platform and the train was delayed for three to five minutes," she added.

According to both Stompers, escalators at the station were also not working and commuters had to climb down the steps.

In addition, multiple Twitter users complained of long waiting times at other stations on the Circle Line such as Buona Vista and Botanic Gardens.

Others tweeted that faulty sensors were causing train doors to shut on commuters at platforms, reported The Straits Times.

Train services appeared to have returned to normal by around 10.15am, based on social media postings.
