Stomper Wandering Gypsy visited the Sembawang Hot Spring located at Gambas Avenue yesterday morning (Apr 25) and he shared some photos with us.

Located between Woodlands Avenue 12 and Sembawang Road, entry to the hot spring is free of charge and it is the only natural hot spring on the main island of Singapore.

Said the Stomper:

"Every morning, hundreds of nearby residents from the HDB estate come here to bathe, cook and to chat with their friends.

"The water is about 70 degrees celsius and you can see steam coming from the hot spring.

"The hot spring was discovered in 1909 by a Chinese merchant named Seah Eng Keong and subsequently, the village in the area became known as Kampong Aver Panas, which means "Village of Hot Water" in Malay.

"Today it is a mecca for nearby residents who come here to bathe and socialise."

In the photos the Stomper contributed, people can be seen washing their hair and soaking their feet in the water. The Stomper also added eggs could be boiled in the spring water in five minutes.

For those who are interested in dropping by, you better make it quick. The area could soon be developed into a park as early as next year.
