Submitted by Stomper Casey

Two workers were rescued by Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officers from a gondola that was stuck at Block 327 Jurong East Avenue 1 for several hours.

Stomper Casey was cycling when he came upon the scene.

The Stomper heard that the workers had been stuck up in the gondola from around 4pm and attempts had been made to contact the contractor.

However, after two hours, nothing had happened so a member of the public contacted the authorities to help.

Said Casey:

"The SCDF and police arrived at around 6 plus and the gondola was finally lowered at around 10pm.

"An SCDF officer rappelled down from the top of the block to assist the workers stuck in the gondola.

"They looked like they were fine but were immediately checked on by paramedics.

"I think they were just shocked to find such a huge crowd waiting for them down below."

An SCDF spokesperson provided Stomp with the following statement:

"At about 7.50pm, SCDF was alerted to a case of height rescue at Jurong East Block 327.

"SCDF dispatched one fire engine, one red rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and three support vehicles.

"Upon arrival, two workers were on the gondola at the ninth storey of the block

"SCDF DART deployed rescuers on the gondola who attached a safety line to each worker.

"The DART rescuers relayed operating instructions to the two workers who subsequently lowered the gondola safely to the ground.

"A safety life air pack was also set up as a precautionary measure.

"No one was injured in this incident.
