Stomper Erman said he saw a woman jumping into the Singapore River at Clarke Quay near the Read Bridge this morning (Feb 28) at around 12.00am.

According to the Stomper, the woman was quarrelling with her boyfriend before the incident took place.

After the woman jumped, the Stomper and a worker watching over some berthed bumboats threw lifebouys into the water.

A Caucasian man then jumped in to rescue her.

In a video the Stomper sent, the woman clad in black can be seen in the Singapore River along with her bag near the shore.

There were two lifebouys beside her in the water, but she seemed reluctant to use them.

The Caucasian man then jumped in and placed her on one of the lifebouys.

It is unclear what happened thereafter.

Said an SCDF spokesperson with regard to what happened:

"SCDF were alerted to the incident at 12.17am.

"We dispatched one ambulance and a female Chinese in her twenties refused conveyance to hospital."
