A 71-year-old woman has married a 17-year-old teenager after she met him at her son's funeral.

According to The Mirror, Madam Almeda Errell from Sevierville, Tennessee tied the knot with Gary Hardwick just three weeks after meeting him.

It was reported that Hardwick arranged for the wedding in six days and it cost him £137 (S$244).

Madam Errell had lost her son, Robert, after he suffered a seizure, reported Elite Daily. She and her new husband are now sharing her house with one of her grandsons who is three years older than Hardwick.

Madam Errell, a supermarket assistant said: "I wasn't looking for a young man, but Gary just came along. I just knew straight away that he was the one."

She had lost her former husband of 43 years to complications from diabetes in 2013. She told the Mirror that after she lost him, she searched for a soulmate.

According to the Mirror, Hardwick was in a relationship with a 77-year-old woman before meeting Madam Errell. His attraction to older women reportedly started after he developed a crush on a teacher at the age of eight.

Madam Errell and Hardwick's union, however, was not approved by everyone.

She said: "Some family members (think) Gary was far too young for me, and that I must be crazy."

But that didn't stop Madam Errell from accepting Hardwick's proposal over the phone two weeks after their first date.

Since their wedding, Hardwick had their names tattooed across his chest and has also started working at another supermarket, reported the Mirror.

He is also applying for a transfer to the same supermarket where Errell is working.
