Stomper Futuristic, a resident staying at Punggol Arcadia, alerted Stomp to a recent spate of lift breakdowns at HDB blocks in his estate.

In a telephone interview, the Stomper said that the breakdowns have been occurring periodically at Blocks 289A to D, as well as other nearby blocks.

According to him, the lift issues started in late August.

He is staying on the 13th floor, and said that he and his children had to take the stairs on three occasions due to the faulty lifts.

Futuristic also sent Stomp photos apparently showing broken down lifts that he came across in a closed Facebook group.

One of the images also showed a notice indicating that upgrading works were being carried out from Aug 1 to 4.

Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol, Sun Xueling, has addressed the lift breakdowns in a Facebook post.

She wrote on Aug 29:

"Dear Residents, I am crucially aware of the lift issues plaguing Arcadia, Residences and Regalia.

"For a while there was an improvement in the workings of the lifts generally across Punggol West but lately, lift issues have crept up again with increasing momentum.

"It is unacceptable that a lift technician is nowhere to be found for 3.5 hours.

"It is also unacceptable that right after servicing, the same lift breaks down again the next day. I sat down with Town council yesterday (Aug 28) to go through the lift issues and sent our data findings to HDB today (Aug 29).

"I have also asked for a meeting with the HDB and have put forth my recommendations. I will keep you posted.

"Thank you."
