NEA responds to video of litterbug running away from enforcement officers outside Ngee Ann City

A man attempted to evade officers from the National Environment Agency (NEA) after he was caught littering outside Ngee Ann City.

The incident happened on Sep 5 and a video of the man running away from officers was uploaded on Sure Boh Singapore’s Facebook page.

In the video, a man in blue was seen walking along Ngee Ann City when he was suddenly approached by another man, an NEA officer.

He suddenly made a run for it, with other NEA officers hot on his trail.

It is unclear what happened after.

In response to Stomp’s query, NEA has issued an official statement on the video:

"The National Environment Agency (NEA) is aware of an incident on 5 Sep 2017 where an offender caught littering tried to evade enforcement action.

"Our officers caught up with him and advised him to calm down and cooperate.

"The male offender then produced his particulars and a Notice to Attend Court was issued to him for his littering offence.

"We will also be filing additional charges against the offender for hindering our officers from discharging their duties.

"NEA seeks the cooperation of members of the public as our officers discharge their duties.

"NEA officers should not be obstructed or hindered from enforcing against environmental offences under our laws.

"Those who obstruct our officers in carrying out their duties may face additional charges over and above the environmental offences that they had committed."
