Men fish outside Esplanade and one has a large catch -- even though it is illegal

Stomper Arif spotted three men fishing near the Esplanade at around 8.30pm on Tuesday (June 26). 

Arif told Stomp that he was just enjoying the breeze when he saw the three men. 

According to him, one of the men later caught a large fish which he then released. 

Said Arif:

“I was just sitting there when I saw the three of them. This is the first time I have seen people fishing here.

“People usually come here to chill and listen to music or talk. Is it normal for people to fish here?”

According to the Public Utilities Board (PUB), fishing outside of designated waterways and reservoirs is illegal.

Offenders can be fined up to $3,000. 

PUB also encourages people to only fish in designated areas.
