Man at mini-mart kicks 5-year-old boy on scooter, then slaps his face: Police investigating

A man not only kicked a boy but returned and slapped him in the face -- right in front of the boy's maid.

The boy’s mother, Facebook user Vivien Chan posted about the incident on her page.

In her post, Vivien recounted how her five-year-old son, Jovian, was assaulted by the stranger for ‘no apparent reason’ while he and the maid were visiting a mini-mart at Block 182A Rivervale Crescent yesterday (Jan 6), at around 9am.

The incident was captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, showing the man kicking Jovian, who was riding a scooter at the time of the incident.

Jovian then got off his scooter and went over to the maid waiting outside the mini-mart.

The man appeared to have gone off, but returned later, and slapped Jovian in the face.

Fortunately, the domestic helper intervened, preventing the man from doing further harm.

After returning home, the maid told Vivien and her husband about the incident.

The two quickly rushed down with the maid to the shop to confront the man, but he had already gone off.

According to several witnesses, the man was a regular patron at a coffee shop nearby, and some had seen him at the same block.

The couple then called the police and officers reached the scene around 25 minutes later.

Read Vivien’s post:

“After the assault on his right face and the back ( I would say his entire head as he was so small compared his peer for his age), thankfully my maid was able to prevent any more attack from this lunatic fu**er and she also challenged him why he wanted to hit the kid.

“My maid returned home and shouted for her Sir (my husband) to go down to find the attacker.

“This would be very familiar to recent case that a Yishun man accused of kicking a child and slapping in kindergarten for no reason.”

Vivien and her husband came across the man in the same the mini-mart again at around 8pm on the same day, after bringing Jovian for a medical examination at a hospital.

A member of the public winked at Vivien's husband, indicating that the man was the same one who had attacked their son earlier on.

Vivien and her husband followed the man back to his flat and called the police.

Three officers were dispatched to the scene.

However, Vivien said that no arrest was made.
