Man, 48, films nude videos of daughter bathing at Toh Yi Drive flat

A man was sentenced to four month's jail on Monday (July 31) after pleading guilty to insulting the modesty of his 21-year-old biological daughter.

The accused, a 48-year-old Malaysian man, had recorded videos of his daughter bathing in the bathroom of a Toh Yi Drive flat in July 2016.

During the time of the incident, the accused and his daughter were staying together in the rented flat, reports The Straits Times

In July 2016, the victim was taking a bath when she noticed a phone tied to the pipe below the basin.

Upon examining it, she realised that the phone was in video recording mode.

She stopped the recording and reviewed the captured footage, which showed her nude body while she was bathing.

She found more videos inside the phone.

A few of them captured her father’s face as he was adjusting the camera angle.

She deleted all the videos and returned the phone to him, subsequently leaving to stay with her colleague.

The accused confessed that he had recorded the videos for personal viewing.

He also claimed to have 20 other videos of his daughter bathing in his phone, but later said he had misplaced it.

The accused was arrested for attempted suicide on April 5, 2017 at 3.10am, after the police responded to a message at Block 840 Jurong West Street 81.

The accused also faced an additional charge of using threatening words and behaviour towards his daughter, by telling her that he wanted to jump down the flat, with his left leg on the parapet.

Due to a gag order, the accused cannot be named.

He was diagnosed with depression, and could have been jailed up to one year, and/or slapped with a fine for insulting modesty.
