Man arrested after Woodlands unit found locked with chain, debtor's note pasted outside

A 20-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in loansharking activities.

The police said they received a report on Jan 9, informing them that the door to a residential unit at Block 717 Woodlands Street 41 had been locked up with a bicycle chain.

A debtor’s note was also placed outside the unit.

Through extensive ground enquiries and aid of images from police cameras, the suspect was identified and arrested at Tampines Street 72 on Jan 12.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have carried out similar acts of harassment at Jurong West, Buangkok Crescent and Serangoon housing estates.

A mobile phone, apparels and a bicycle lock with keys were seized as case exhibits.

The suspect was charged in court on Jan 13 under the Moneylenders Act 2010.
