Man arrested after allegedly arranging for hitman to kill wife and kid -- but texts wrong number

A 42-year-old man in Washington has been arrested for allegedly arranging for a hitman to kill his wife and four-year-old daughter.

According to Thought Catalog, Jeff Lytle had his plans foiled when he texted his former boss instead of the guy ('Shayne') whom he supposedly wanted to hire.

"You remember you said that you would help me kill my wife … I’m going to take you up on that offer," said one message.

Lytle added that his wife had $1 million in life insurance while his daughter had $500,000.

He apparently also sent Shayne his wife's work schedule and instructions to make the murder look like an accident or a "robbery gone wrong".

Lytle's old employee had called the police after receiving the texts.

The suspect is currently in police custody on a $1 million bail.

However, he denied plotting to kill his family, claiming that the messages had simply been a draft and a way of venting his anger towards his wife.
