Man and woman arrested for serial theft after allegedly stealing handphone from Lucky Plaza shop

A 41-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman have been arrested for their suspected involvement in a series of theft cases.

The owner of a handphone shop in Lucky Plaza told the police on Feb 4 at around 9pm that a mobile phone kept in the counter area had been stolen.

After conducting extensive ground enquiries and viewing CCTV footages, the police established that the man had allegedly taken the handphone and passed it to his female accomplice while the shop’s staff was attending to other customers.

The duo left the shop shortly after.

The following day, the shop owner spotted both suspects in the vicinity of Lucky Plaza and called the police, who arrived promptly at the scene and arrested them.

Preliminary investigations revealed the duo’s suspected involvement in several other theft cases.

Both suspects will be charged in court today (Feb 7) with the offence of theft in dwelling with common intention.

If convicted, they face a jail term of up to seven years and shall also be liable to a fine.

In a news release, the police reminded members of the public to be vigilant of their surroundings and to safeguard their belongings in crowded places, especially during this festive season.
