Maid abuses 89-year-old dementia patient, jailed 8 months

Just barely a month into her job, a 30-year-old Indonesian domestic helper started abusing an 89-year-old dementia patient whom she was hired to look after.

Other than jabbing the woman’s eyes with her index fingers, the maid also pinched the victim’s chest, back, and buttocks.

She has since been sentenced to 8 months’ jail, reports Shin Min Daily News.

The victim who suffers from mild dementia stayed with six other family members at the time of the incident.

The granddaughter of the victim, suspecting that the maid had abused her grandmother, called the police on September 15, 2017, at around 11.59pm.

She told police officers that after she came home from work that day, she found that her grandmother’s eyes were red, and there were bruises on her face.

According to her, this situation has been happening for the past few weeks.

The furious woman confronted the maid, who denied abusing the victim.

The woman then called the police.

The court heard that on the day of the incident, at around 10am, the maid had moved the victim from a wheelchair onto a bed.

During the process, the victim’s pyjamas got caught in the wheelchair.

She then pulled the maid’s hair, and the maid retaliated by poking her in her left eye.

Investigations revealed that between August 1 and September 15, 2017, the maid had physically abused the victim on numerous occasions.

She pinched the victim’s right breast, buttocks, and back.

This was due to the victim calling her ‘stupid’ and pushing her head away with her fingers sometimes.

The victim was later sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital for treatment.

Reporters indicate that she suffered many injuries on her face and hands.

Doctors also found bruises on her back and buttocks.
