Fire breaks out on 7th storey of Ubi Ave Blk 338

Stompers DesmondJolene, Nadhir, Ruddy and Hazel alerted Stomp to a fire that occurred on the 7th storey of Ubi Avenue 1 Block 338 today (May 8) at around 11am.

In the photos the Stompers contributed, thick black smoke can be seen billowing from an open window and corridor of a unit on the 7th storey. 

Stomper Desmond was driving by the area when he saw smoke coming out from the unit. He told Stomp over the phone that passers-by were standing at the void deck and observing the commotion.

Stomper Jolene, one of the residents at the void deck, said:

"There were three fire engines and two police cars in the area.

"I was about to go to work when I smelled this very smoky, burnt smell. I saw firemen fixing a hose and running on the road so I went over to take a look.

"The owner of the house was a lady and she looked very distraught. People told me that she didn't suffer any injuries."

A spokesperson from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Stomp:

"“SCDF was alerted to a fire at the 7th floor of Block 338 Ubi Avenue 1 at around 11.20am.

"SCDF dispatched two Fire Engines, one Red Rhino, two fire bikes, one ambulance and one support vehicle.

"The fire, which involved the contents of a bedroom, was extinguished by firefighters using one water jet.

"Three occupants self-evacuated prior to SCDF arrival. About 15 other residents were evacuated by SCDF and the Singapore Police Force.

"One woman in her 70’s was conveyed to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
