The economy is not doing so well and as such, even the God of Wealth has to take public transportation.

Stompers Koh and tankca spotted the God of Wealth on Saturday (Feb 10) at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station.

The God of Wealth, also known as Cai Shen Ye, is the Chinese god of prosperity according to Chinese folklore. Cai Shen is often seen as part of Chinese New Year celebrations.

Koh told Stomp that she saw the mascot at around 3.10pm on Feb 10, where he was queueing to board the train headed in the direction of Jurong East.

Flanked by two men in orange shirts, Cai Shen Ye and the men were seen giving away chocolates to lucky commuters.

Amused, Koh told Stomp, "I thought it was quite cute and people were surprised to see the God of Wealth. Quite fun to see such things since it's close to the Chinese New Year period."

Stomper tankca saw Cai Shen Ye at the station 2 hours later where he was seen queuing to board another train.

The mascot is believed to a clever publicity stunt by FreeLor, an e-commerce store that offers daily deals and rewards.
