Woman in red helping at Stadium Rd accident scene revealed to be ex-national athlete James Wong's wife

Remember the woman in red who was one of many helping hands who came to aid of a van driver who crashed into a tree at Stadium Drive on Monday (Mar 13)?

Turns out she is the wife of former national athlete and discus king James Wong.

A video posted on the Beh Chia Lor Facebook page showed many people helping to direct traffic, aid the victims and clear the tree from the road after the crash.

Netizens were concerned after seeing the woman fall while trying to clear the tree branches.

Mr William Lee, who posted the video on the page, said his wife called the ambulance while he checked on the driver.

"Soon thereafter, many hands appeared and the red-shirt lady initiated to move the fallen branches aside," Mr Lee added in his post.

The woman he was referring to is none other than Ms Jana Lauren, the wife of 10-time SEA games champion James Wong.

"Thanks everyone. The lady in red is my wife and she is happy to help."

"She fell while pulling some branches but she is fine now. Thanks," said Mr Wong in a comment on Facebook.

Ms Lauren, who is an athletics coach, told The Straits Times that she was coaching at the practice track nearby when she heard the crash and saw the tree branches coming down.

"Thank God the driver was not really injured," said Ms Lauren, who is from Germany and has lived in Singapore for 16 years.

"We tried to pull the tree away from the other lane, I grabbed a loose branch, and fell over," she said.

"I'm pretty sporty, so it didn't really hurt me"

She added that another coach and one of her athletes also stopped to help.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that a man in his 40s sustained minor injuries in the accident but refused to be taken to the hospital.

The SCDF dispatched two fire bikes and one ambulance to the scene.
