Six drown in tragic rescue attempt of woman who jumped into river in China

Six people tragically drowned in a river in Dunhuang city, Gansu province, China in a well-intentioned attempt to prevent a colleague from committing suicide.

According to Shanghaiist, a group of colleagues were enjoying food and drinks when a 19-year-old woman announced she did not want to live anymore and jumped into a nearby river.

At first, she was successfully rescued when four of her colleagues aged between 18 and 26 pulled her from the water.

However, she dived back into the river again and was followed by her colleagues and a nearby food vendor who wanted to help.

Unfortunately, this time, they were not so lucky and all six drowned.

City officials are investigating the incident.
