Drivers who illegally use high beams in China forced to stare into their blinding lights for 1 minute

China's Police have implemented an unconventional punishment to deter drivers from illegally using high beams at night.

According to Shanghaiist, authorities have warned drivers that they will be made to stare into the blinding lights of their own vehicles for one minute.

A special chair was even designed just for the errant drivers who flout traffic rules.

This unusual implementation has caused a stir on social media. Some think it is wrong while others have welcomed it.

Said a netizen:

"Traffic police comrades, I believe this kind of punishment is not right, it's inhumane, they should have to look for 5 minutes."

Wrote another:

"The whole country should implement this immediately."

This form of punishment was first tried out in 2014 but its effectiveness are unclear.
